The chrome and the bamboo safety razors on their stands, on a marble basin top in morning light

Rated Excellent on Trustpilot

A neck you can run your hand up the morning after

Dermatologists recommend a single blade for razor bumps. Ours cuts each hair level with the skin, so fewer grow back in.

  • Lifetime warranty
  • A hundred days to decide
  • One blade, gentler on your neck
  • No ingrowns the day after

THIS RAZOR ASKS FOR A LITTLE CARE.

It needs a light touch and a few unhurried minutes. If you shave on autopilot, a cartridge suits you better. Weโ€™d rather say this now.

What is hysteresis?

  1. The first blade pulls the hair up. The rest cut it while it is raised.
  2. It springs back with its cut end below the skin, and grows back in.
  3. One sharp blade cuts it once, level with the skin. No hysteresis. No ingrowns.

One blade is enough

  • The head of the Kronos safety razor on a bamboo handle, close up

    Kinder to skin

Cuts at the surface, not below. Less burn, fewer bumps. Backed by dermatologists.

  • The bamboo-handled razor laid out in its three pieces beside a double-edge blade

    Quality over quantity

What barbers have used for centuries. No tug, calm skin.

  • A hand holding the chrome Kronos safety razor

    A ritual, not a chore

A shave that takes a few minutes more, and becomes the five minutes of your day that belong to you.

1 / 3

Dermatologists recommend a single blade for razor bumps.

The British Association of Dermatologistsโ€™ leaflet on razor bumps says โ€œuse single bladesโ€, and the Kronos Safety Razor is a single blade.

There is a reason why dermatologists recommend a single blade.

The part that nicks.

A blade nicks at its corners. Kronos encloses them; only the edge meets skin.

In their own words

Unprompted comments left for us in public.

Your first shave in three steps.

  1. Know what you're holding

Three parts, one blade. The guard shields the blade. The head sets the angle. The handle carries the weight.

  2. Let the weight work

Don't press. The razor is heavy enough. Hold it like a pen and let it glide.

  3. Use short strokes

An inch at a time. Lift, move down, go again. Keep the skin taut.

“The trick is don't treat your morning shave as a chore to be rushed; look upon it as a pleasure, take your time.”

Three things men ask first

  • Will one sharp blade cut me?

The corners, the part that nicks, sit inside the head. No pressure, short strokes, and only the edge meets skin.

@neiltoye, asked how often he cuts himself: never.

  • Is it the razor, or my routine?

The bump is a hair cut below the surface. Balms work on top of it. Only the razor decides where the hair is cut.

  • How long does it take?

Five minutes, after a week. The first week is slower. That is the trade, and we would rather say so.

The long answer

What five blades do to skin

The front blade lifts each hair away from the skin. The blades behind it cut, and the hair ends up cut below the surface. It springs back under the skin and grows back in. The bump is what you see a day or two later.

One blade cannot do that, because there is nothing in front of it to lift the hair. It cuts where the hair leaves the skin and nothing is left underneath. It is the shape of the razor, nothing you could put in a tube.

Why the routine cannot reach it

Balms, scrubs and cooling gels work on the surface. The hair that causes the bump is below it, and it was put there by the razor. That is why a drawer full of aftershave has not changed much.

Lather still matters, because a blade should glide. But the thing that changes what happens under the skin is where the hair gets cut, and only the razor decides that.

What it asks of you

It asks more of you than a cartridge does. Short strokes, no pressure, and about a week before it becomes second nature. If you want a two-minute shave you can do while thinking about something else, this is the wrong razor, and we would rather say so now.

With the right technique, a single sharp blade is no more likely to cut you. The corners sit enclosed, the part that nicks, so only the safe edge meets skin. Sharper means less pressure, and less pressure means less irritation.

Why do I get ingrown hairs and bumps?

Multiple blades pull the hair up and cut it below the skin, where it grows back trapped. The Kronos Safety Razor cuts it level with one blade, which is what dermatologists suggest for razor bumps.

What about the neck?

Hair on the neck grows in more directions than on the cheek. Map it once, shave with the grain, and hold the skin flat with your other hand. Never against the grain on the first pass.

How long does it take to learn?

About a week of daily shaves. The first few are slower and you will go over nothing twice.

Can one blade really beat a five-blade cartridge?

With one sharp edge, the Kronos Safety Razor cuts the hair in a single clean pass. Five blades drag it over five times. Fewer passes, a closer finish, nothing underneath the skin.

Do I have to use Kronos blades in a Kronos razor?

No. A Kronos razor takes any standard double-edge blade, and Kronos blades fit any double-edge razor.

A hundred days to make up your mind
