How to Care for Your Safety Razor
Caring for your razor is the easy half of the routine; the other half is the shave itself, covered in our guide to how to use a safety razor.
After each shave
Rinse the razor head under warm running water with the blade in place. Shake off excess water gently. Stand it upright on a razor stand to air-dry. That's all most people need to do.
Weekly clean
Unscrew the head, remove the blade carefully, and rinse each component. A soft toothbrush with warm water removes any soap residue from the threads. Dry before reassembling.
What to avoid
- Leaving it in standing water โ standing water corrodes chrome over time. A razor stand keeps it dry between uses.
- Harsh cleaners or bleach โ mild soap and water is enough. Aggressive chemicals can strip the plating.
- Wiping the blade โ never dry the blade with cloth. It removes the fine edge.
Long-term care
A well-maintained Kronos razor will last years. If the chrome shows signs of tarnish, a small amount of chrome polish on the handle (not the blade) and a gentle buff will restore the shine. Replace blades regularly regardless of how well you maintain the razor.
