Frequent Questions
Will the soap puck stay put while I load the brush?
Yes. The recess holds the puck snug, so it stays still while the brush works instead of sliding around the sink.
What is the wooden shaving bowl made from?
Grained mango wood, treated to resist water.
Will any shaving soap fit the bowl?
The recess is shaped for our 100g puck. Once that's finished, the bowl takes any standard shaving soap after it.
How do I get the lather going faster in the bowl?
Rinse the bowl with warm water before you start. The wood holds a little of that heat, which helps loosen the lather as it builds.
The Wooden Shaving Bowl solves one specific annoyance familiar to any brush user, morning after morning: a soap puck that slides around under the brush. Its mango-wood recess is sized to grip a 63mm puck snugly, so the brush loads the soap instead of chasing it round the bowl.
Grained mango wood, treated for water resistance, means daily wetting does not warp it the way an untreated bowl would. The recess is carved to the puck's size, built for the job of loading a brush rather than serving as a generic dish.
A shaving brush pressed down on a loose puck pushes it sideways before it lifts any lather, which wastes the first stroke of a shave most mornings; this recess holds a 63mm puck snugly so the brush meets resistance and lather straight away. It is sized to the same 63mm puck the Sandalwood Shaving Soap comes in.
A different diameter will not sit as snugly in the recess, which is the trade-off for a fit tight enough to stop the sliding in the first place. A rinse and a dry after each shave is enough, since the water resistance treatment does the rest of the work of keeping the wood sound.
